Happy New Year from Vera! At the beginning of the year, we often set resolutions to help us ring in the new year with a renewed commitment to accomplishing our aspirations and goals. Sometimes these goals can become burdens, or feel constructed to make us feel badly about ourselves rather than successful. This year, we suggest resolving to take better care of yourself and make this year about feeling your best, inside and out.
Be your best you
Make your primary resolution this year to be your best you. What does that mean? It means taking time to focus on your well-being. It means prioritizing the health of your mind and your body because when you feel your best, you can do more for yourself and others. Need some help to get started? Here are a few ways to make yourself a top priority.
Self-care is the practice of taking just a few minutes out of each day to do something for yourself. It can be as simple as reading a chapter of your favorite book, enjoying a cup of tea, or taking a hot bath. It doesn’t matter what the activity is, as long as it leaves you feeling refreshed, decreases stress and anxiety, and helps you move toward your goal of being your best you.
One way to help practice self-care is by engaging in mindfulness. Mindfulness happens when you choose to be present in the moment. The goal is to be fully aware of your experiences (good or bad) in the present moment without judgement.
